Cancer Prevented by Diet Low in Protein and Calories

Cancers not associated to obesity can be prevented by consuming a diet low in protein and calories according to US Researchers//.

Obese people are higher risk of developing kidney cancer, colon cancer, endometrial cancer, post-menopausal breast cancer and a type of esophageal cancer.

Dr. Luigi Fontana, a medical professor and his team at Washington University, conducted the following study to show the impact of low protein diet on cancer:

1) lean people consuming a vegetarian diet low in calories and protien. 2) lean people consuming a standard Western diet and involving in Endurance exercises such as running for 77 km/week. 3) People following a sedentary lifestyle and consuming a western diet which is calorie and protein dense.

Fontana said, "People on a low-protein, low-calorie diet had considerably lower levels of a particular plasma growth factor called IGF-1 than equally lean endurance runners."

"That suggests to us that a diet lower in protein may have a greater protective effect against cancer than endurance exercise, independently of body fat mass."
