The high homocysteine levels can occur due to two reasons; one which is triggered by a poor diet that does not have adequate Vitamin B, and two, genetic predisposition to increased homocysteine levels.

This study seeks to asses if post-menopausal women with a specific genetic profile can actually merit with B-vitamin supplementation, to reduce the levels of homocysteine levels, and allay potential osteoporosis. "Studies have found that when B-vitamin intake is improved, homocysteine levels are lowered and this offers the possibility of a novel way to reduce osteoporosis," Prof McNulty added.
