California: 'Go Ahead' For Drug Discount Initiative

The Democratic legislative leaders approved the proposed discount drug plan, which will entail about 40% discount on branded medications and 60% on generic ones for the// low-income residents of the state.

This initiative will require the prescription drug companies to enable discounts. All companies will be required to adhere to this by August 2010, failing which they may stand to be removed from Medi-Cal's preferred drug list.

The governor said, "We are providing meaningful prescription drug discounts for the hard-working Californians who pay the most for their life-saving medications, but can afford it the least."
