Cadbury Removes Chocolates From Shelves Amid Fears Of Contamination

Cadbury Ireland had on the 23rd June recalled almost around 20,000 chocolate bars in Britain as a precautionary move because there are fears// that those bars may contain traces of salmonella.

A spokesperson for the company has said that there were minute traces of salmonella, which though quite are significantly below the levels that stipulated by the scientific standards for any hazards. The spokesperson had also clarified that there has been no connection between the chocolates and anybody becoming ill from it.

It was explained that the company has identified the source of the problem and has taken steps to rectify it. The company is also taking strict measures so as to ensure that the products that are under suspicion of probable infection would no longer be available on the shelves for sale.

The company has clarified that they would be taking seven of their products from the shelves, after consultation with the Food standard Agency (FCA). The products that are being withdrawn are; Dairy Milk Turkish 250g, Dairy Milk Mint bars, Dairy Milk Buttons Easter Egg 105g, Dairy Milk Caramel, Dairy Milk 1kg bar, and the Freddo bar.

He spokesperson also said; “Cadbury expects to have fresh stocks of these products back on the market in the near future.” Thy explained that the source of contamination has been identified to the faulty pipe at Cadbury’s Marlbrook plant in Herefordshire.

The factory at Marlbrook produces almost 100,000 tonnes of milk chocolate crumbs in year. They have also opened a free hotline number, 0800 818181. Officials explained that uneaten products can be sent back for a refund to the Cadbury Recall, at Freepost MID20061, Birmingham B3O 2QZ.
