Cadbury Dismisses Rumors of Withdrawal of More Products

Following their withdrawal of seven lines of their products Cadbury Schweppes PLC has dismissed rumors of suggestions of withdrawal //of more products because of salmonella contamination.

Cadbury, the confectionery and soft drinks manufacturer, was forced to withdraw seven lines of chocolates last month after admitting they may have contained 'minute traces of salmonella'.

Reports of further testing and possible withdrawal of still more products has led spokesman for Cadbury to say, 'We're not recalling any more products.

Environmental health officers have tested a number of other products which is perfectly normal. We've tested tens of thousands of products and they've all come up negative so we do not believe there is any reason to recall any other products.’

The first rare strain of salmonella was detected in samples of its chocolate crumb - a cocoa, milk and sugar mix - in January. However, the company informed the FSA of the contamination only on June 19.

This crumb is made at its Herefordshire factory and used as the base for products made at Cadbury factories near Birmingham and Bath.

Recent estimates that Cadbury could face a cost of 25 mln stg from the salmonella scare are about five times more than its original estimate.

However as a Cadbury spokesman insisted, it is 'far to early to say' what the eventual cost will be.
