Burma Restocks Poultry Farms Again

Burma's livestock officials have said that they planned to begin restocking poultry farms that had been struck by bird flu//.

Livestock Breeding and Veterinary department in Burma have reported that farms affected by bird flu as also the subsequent culling program would be supplied stocks of birds and poultry feed, while keeping such areas under close surveillance.

Burma has not reported any new bird flu outbreak since April 6th.The first outbreak of the H5N1 strain of the virus was reported on March 13 in the central Mandalay and Sagaing regions, following which tight restrictions were placed on the movement of animals and closed markets in the region. Several thousands of chickens, quails and their eggs were culled in Burma.

U.N. experts from the Food and Agricultural Organization and the World Health Organization also carried out disease investigations.
