Bulgarian Nurses Involved In Infecting Libyan Children with AIDS Undergo Retrial

In 1999 five Bulgarian nurses along with a Palestinian doctor were accused of infecting Libyan children with AIDS. They were found guilty of infecting 426 children with AIDS contaminated blood at a local hospital. // Following which they were given the death penalty. But on Christmas their penalty were quashed. Till now fifty-one of the children have died.

All six accused appealed and the court ordered a retrial, and scrapped the death sentences. Sofia and Tripoli have seeked help and raised funds to help the infected children. Spokesperson Idriss Lagha said that the AIDS-infected children would be sent to French (Paris and Marseille) and Italian hospitals (Rome and Milan) in the next two weeks for treatment. Libya ambassador and Bulgarian ambassador met at Tripoli, to discuss the publication of Kadhafi cartoons in the Bulgarian daily Novinar. The cartoons were insulting the Libyan justice.
