Child prodigy marathon runner Budhia Singh, who has created history by running over such long distances may be asked to take a dope test, according to Khurda District// Child Welfare Committee chairman R S Mishra.
Mishra was speaking after he handed over Budhia's medical report to Orissa Women and Child Welfare Minister Pramila Mallick. "The doctors have suggested dope testing for Budhia who ran such a long distance", he said. He added that the proposed test could take place in New Delhi or in any other center recommended by the Sports Authority of India.
Budhia's medical report has indeed concerned doctors. "Further opinion can be given after availability of investigative reports like MRI of wrist joint, L S spine, both knee and ankle joints.....Karyo typing and dope testing," the medical report said.
Dr Sugat Kar, who is the chief medical officer of Capital Hospital and member of the medical team, which tested Budhia, was pleasantly surprised with the stamina shown by the amazing four-year-old. "Budhia is an exceptional case. I feel the incredible stamina could be genetic," Kar said, adding that taking steroids was rare in marathon runners. "We didn't have any scope to look into this factor during medical examination. This is a highly specialized subject. It needs further research".
