British Hospitals Reeling Under the Effect of Alcoholic Excesses

The people seeking medical help because of illnesses related to alcohol abuse seem to have doubled in Britain over the past few years//.

Current official statistics show that emergency wards in hospitals, treated twice the number of patients treated for accidents and emergencies caused due to drunkenness since 1997.

Other related medical conditions and treatment for the same also have doubled, reported NHS since 1997, accounting for more than a quarter million alcohol related health problems.

Binging on alcohol in excess is scaling among the youth as well. 8,299 under-18s were treated last year, in A&E, which reflects an increase of over 40% in three years. Medical experts describe mental disorders and disorders of behaviour and liver disease arising from use of alcohol as alcoholic disorders.

Therefore the figures related to alcoholic disorders do not include emergencies that arise from physical violence from drunken behaviour.

Britons consume gallons of alcohol at Christmas time in a drinking binge. Since liquor becomes available round-the-clock majority go into a binge mood.

Sales of alcohol have currently crossed record levels. Centre for Public Health had released a report earlier warning the government that binge drinking is one major reason for reducing life expectancy and quality of life ,triggering umpteen brawls and street fights. Alcoholics have a much lesser life span than those who keep away from the bottle.

The department of Health has defensively stated that it is taking necessary steps to prevent misuse and binging of alcohol .They aim to spread the message especially among youngsters.
