British Addicted To Cell Phones

According to a survey on addiction in UK, 40% Of Adults Cannot Manage Without Cell Phones.The researcher David Sheffield, of University of Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent, who had conducted the research//, claimed that certain some people show addictive behavior when it comes to their cell phones. In his study on how students felt about their mobile phones, he observed that some of the behaviors displayed, closely resembled symptoms of ‘pathological gambling’.

In the questionnaire that was passed around for the research, nearly 40% of the total 106 students claimed that they could not do without their cell phones. It was also shown in the report that around 90% of students in the age group of 18-25 admitted to carry the phone on them everywhere they went.

Sheffield while stating, “Mobile phones have become a very significant part of everyday life and their use can have some detrimental effects.” He further added that the study found that 35% in the category claimed to look at the device as an way to escape from their problems, 32% of them made numerous attempts to reduce its use, and 14% said they were willing to lie about their dependency on the cell phone.

Sheffield also mentioned his surprise when he noticed in his study that around 7% of the students claimed that the ‘cell’ was responsible for a major loss in their relationships or for losing their jobs.
