Britain’s Hearts in Good Care – Deaths Due to Heart Disease Falls by 3%

Some hearty news in the air, indeed! Today, it has been revealed that deaths due to heart disease has fallen by one-third in the past decade// and we owe this development to better awareness amongst people towards smoking, improved detection and surely, evolved treatment measures.

The data enabled by the government is evidence about the 39.5% decline in coronary heart disease deaths since 1966 for those below 75 years of age. This is half the battle won and the goal of the NHS to realize a 40% reduction in the CHD deaths by 2010 is not a distant dream.

Cholesterol restraining statins and reduction in smoking has influenced the survival rates of CHD considerably. The report named “Shaping the future” has indeed shown the impact of strategies to combat CHD on a nation that was battling a mammoth killer accounting for nearly 270,000 heart attacks each year.

The report has shown the huge strides taken in the treatment of patients, who most certainly receive treatment within the first half hour of their arrival at the hospital. In 2005, nearly 9700 lives have been brought back from critical situations with the use of statins in 2005, as compared to 2900 lives in 2000. The report also shows that waiting times for patients to undergo heart surgery has not been longer than 3 months in the previous year.
