According to a leaked government document, it is stated that Britain needs to prepare itself to mass bury the dead bodies, if encountered with the pandemic flu sometime in// the future. It has been estimated that nearly one third of a million people will die if bird flu strikes in Britain.

The document titled Managing Excess Deaths in an Influenza Pandemic, according to Life Style Extra, says the government should not rely on the antiviral vaccine or drugs to protect against the deadly bird flu because no drugs can cure the disease caused by a mutated form of bird flu virus, reports foodconsumer.org.

A pandemic like the Black Death that swept through Britain in the 17th Century could kill people quickly, justifying that mass burials similar to the plague pits are to be enforced should a human form of H5N1 bird flu strike.

The report estimates that a flu pandemic could kill as many as 320,000 people in Britain. The flu pandemic that occurred in 1918 killed 50 million people worldwide.

The mass burial plan is proposed considering the local communities may only cope with 48,000 deaths in England and Wales should the flu outbreak last for 15 weeks. There is no way to deal with 320,000 deaths without mass burials in plague pits, news media cited the report.

It's always desirable to bury as quickly as possible dead bodies resulting from a pandemic to prevent the disease from spreading.
