Many women suffer from chronic pelvic floor spasm and pain, which may now be relieved by Botox injections, a group of Australian researchers report.// The usual symptoms of this condition are heaviness, frequency or urgency in urination, painful intercourse and pelvic pain.

Dr. Jason A. Abbott of the Royal Hospital For Women, Randwick conducted a 2 year study along with his team to study the effect of botox on women with pelvic spasms.30 women were studied, some of whom were given Botox while others were injected with a placebo.

The Botox group reported greater pain relief than the other and also a significant improvement in the quality of life. The researchers conclude that Botox can be of great relief in pelvic pain and pressure, which do not respond to usual treatments. The report is published in the Journal Of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (October).
