Boom In Sexually Transmitted Infections In Senior Scottish Citizens

Sexually transmitted diseases like HIV are increasing exponentially in over-50s in Scotland causing widespread concern. Official figures reveal that the rate// of sexually transmitted diseases had more than trebled in this segment of the population.

Infections like chlamydia and herpes are also rising rapidly in senior citizens in Scotland. Health workers feel older citizens are ignoring the safe sex message.

The rise in infections is attributed to an increase in the number of older people entering into new relationships following divorce or death of a partner. Health workers feel that this older group may not be aware of the dangers of having unprotected sex.

Cases of Chlamydia in Scotland have increased from 43 in 2000 to 91 in 2005, while herpes infections have trebled from 32 to 107.
