Body Makes the Best Out of Fruits If Eaten at Mealtimes

Most children do not grow up without the advice to eat plenty of fruits. Fruits are packed with nutrition and most of us know it. A novel study has found that benefits of// fruits can be achieved fully only when they are consumed at the appropriate time.

A study conducted at the University of Auckland looked into the dietary habits of children aged 6 to 23 months. The finding revealed that children benefited the maximum when they ate the fruits as part of their regular meals. The study also revealed that the iron content in the body was higher when the fruits were consumed at meal times rather than at other times during the day.

According to researchers, the body is tuned to absorb maximum nutrients from food stuff at mealtimes. And this is perhaps one reason why the body assimilates the maximum nutrients from food/fruits eaten at regular mealtimes.

Deborah Brunt of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences said, ‘Iron is very important for young children, who are growing and developing at a fast rate. Without adequate iron, brain development is impaired and this can have long lasting effects on learning. By eating fruit or drinking fruit juices at meal times, parents can vastly improve their child's iron level and subsequently provide them with a better chance of developing to their full potential.’
