Adolescents with clinical symptoms like depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and other mental health problems are more likely //to be reflected in their body image than others - a study of adolescents in a psychiatric hospital reveals.

Dr. Jennifer Dyl of Brown Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island and colleagues reported people who are conscious with their body shape and weight are likely to be suffer from dissociation, post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual preoccupation, which was published in the journal of Child Psychiatry and Human Development.

Reduced body functioning and distress are the two classical symptoms seen in patients with body image disorders, which includes one third of the teens studied.

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), is a condition where people are usually engaged with imagining or dreaming about their own shape – a report says.

The researchers studied nearly 208 boys and girls between the age group of 12 and 17 years admitted to a psychiatry hospital and concluded the condition seems to be related with eating disorders, body image concerns and other mental disorders.
