Guwahati: An alert has been sounded against bird flu at the Kaziranga National Park in Assam, as migratory birds are expected to flock to the sanctuary around this time every year. //

Wildlife staff manning over 100 anti-poaching camps inside the 430-square km national park have been alerted about the possibility of migratory birds carrying the deadly avian flu virus and asked to report immediately if any unusual avian behaviour. A veterinary doctor has been sent for training outside the state about preliminary detection and diagnosis of bird flu.

The park, located on the south bank of Brahmaputra in central Assam, attracts over a hundred species of migratory birds between November and April every year. They fly from places like as far as Siberia, China and Tibet.

The alert against the avian influenza has been sounded all over Assam to protect the resident stock of poultry in the state from the deadly viral infection.
