Jalgaon is in the eye of the storm once again, with confirmed cases of bird-flu in six villages of Jalgaon district in Maharashtra. Following the bird-flu notification// in four villages in the district, during the II week of March, samples were sent to High Security Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal which has confirmed that seven samples had tested positive for the H5 virus.
According to Bijay Kumar, Commissioner, Animal Husbandry Department, Maharashtra, The cases reported belonged to the former outbreak, prior to the commencement of culling operations in Jalgaon. Nearly 75,000 birds spread over 17 poultry farms will be culled today.
According to another notification, a village in Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh that is closer to Jalgaon has also reported cases of bird-flu. Protective measures are underway to begin the culling operations soon.
