Bihar High Court Intervenes To End Doctors Strike

The Bihar High Court on Tuesday ordered the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) //junior doctors to call off their strike immediately. This order came after hearing a filed petition, that the strike has crippled emergency services since its start on Friday.

The death of several critical patients due to lack of health care at the hospital also added to the intervention of the Bihar High Court. The Hospital sources reported unofficially that the ongoing strike has caused at least six deaths in the last four days.

PMCH Junior Doctors Association president Gauhar Alam said the court had only requested that the strike be called off. "We will decide about the future course of action in a meeting of junior doctors."

Court officials said however that the striking doctors were asked in an oral order to end their strike before their demands could be considered sympathetically as the strike had brought healthcare to a stand still at the Patna Medical Hospital.
