Bausch & Lomb Pulls Lens Solution From US Market

Bausch & Lomb has pulled a widely used contact lens solution from the US market on Thursday after a lawsuit alleging that it failed to disclose the facts of the // solution, which is implicated in serious fungal infection in users in Asia.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Walgreen Co. and other retailers have already cleared the lens solution from their shelves and they were joined on Thursday by Sears Holdings Corp, which confirmed that it had withdrawn ReNu with MoistureLoc from its Kmart and Sears stores. Bausch & Lomb said that it would be running newspaper ads warning people not to use the solution. Health officials are monitoring 109 cases of Fusarium keratitis, a fungal infection that can cause permanent blindness if untreated. 26 of these people say that they used ReNu products or generic versions made by Bausch & Lomb. Most of them used ReNu with MoistureLoc that was produced in US factories. Bausch & Lomb said in a statement that it had not found any link to the infections in its plants after a through inspection, but asked users to switch to another solution, while it looked into the current reports.
