Ban on exports of poultry products from British Columbia lifted

United States has lifted the ban on the import of poultry products which it imposed last week following isolation of bird flu strain //for the second time in a month from Fraser Valley duck farm. The lifting of ban follows identifying that both the isolated virus strains were H5 strains and this strain is found to be a non-infectious and less pathogenic strain.

U.S. has still not lifted its ban of poultry exports against Taiwan, Hongkong and Japan. Canadian authoroties are confident from the lab report that this strain does not spread nor did not cause any clinical infections in birds and is found to have less pathogenecity compared to the bird flu virus strains of asia which is found to be comparatively more pathogenic and virulent. Though the strains of virus found in canada is less virulent the Canadian Government is not taking any risks they have intensified the surveillance, after last weeks report of H5 strain in canadian duck farm the authoroties have killed more than 60,000 birds as a precautionary methods to stop any possible spread of virus to humans and birds.
