Baby with white blood!

A hospital in Kolkatta, India recently received a patient, a two-month-old baby with white blood! The baby was said to be suffering from a rare disease caused due to a deficiency of lipoprotein lipase. This disease occurs only in one out of 10 million children. Doctors said that the baby was brought to the hospital with complaints of blood in stool. On detection the baby, a boy child, was found to have lipemic blood. Doctors said that this condition could be either due to// ‘familial lipase deficiency syndrome’ or ‘familial apolypoprotein C-2’. However, clinical tests conducted have shown that the reason was more likely to be that of a familial deficiency syndrome. Doctors concluded that the baby was under observation and that the confirmatory tests could be carried out only at specialised labs at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
