One of three babies born to SARS-infected mothers in Hong Kong is now healthy and has been discharged from a hospital, officials said today. A Hong Kong Hospital Authority statement said the baby was discharged from Princess Margaret Hospital today. "The baby is healthy and doctors said he does not have any SARS symptoms," Dr Liu Shao-haei, the Hospital Authority's senior executive manager, earlier told a news conference. One of two other babies treated at the //Prince of Wales Hospital is still on a respirator, but is in stable condition, Liu said. The condition of the third baby was reported as serious, the Hospital Authority statement said. The babies had experienced problems breathing, although it was not clear whether they were affected by SARS or their premature births. At least one received the antiviral drug ribavirin, which is used to treat adults with severe acute respiratory syndrome. Two of the mothers died after giving birth, but the surviving mother was in a stable condition in Princess Margaret Hospital, the statement added.
