Baby Lennox Gets Liver Transplant

Lennox Nicholson, a five-month-old baby boy will undergo a liver transplant at the St James's University Hospital in Leeds, as a donor has come forward.// The surgery is expected to take as long as 10 hours, in which half the liver of the adult donor will be used.

Lennox developed chronic liver problems and jaundice within weeks after his birth. His bile ducts were found to be completely blocked, and a transplant appeared to be the only way of saving his life. The parents of the baby boy had appealed through the media for a donor. The death of George Best who went back to drinking after a life-saving liver transplant may have discouraged donors from coming forward to donate organs. The very attitude of donors appears to have changed with the death of the former football player. The UK donor register has a total of 13 million names. The baby has to be administered 20 drugs everyday. Mark Stringer, the liver surgeon is conducting the surgery.
