A baby food breakfast was recalled from Singapore's markets as a precautionary measure after the US Food and Drug Administration warned// that the product might be contaminated and cause botulism, health officials said Wednesday.

Importers and retailers were told to recall Earth's Best Organic 2 Apple Beach Barley Wholesome Breakfast Baby Food, said a statement from the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority.

The US food and drug watchdog said the baby food "may be contaminated with clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism, a life-threatening illness," the Singapore authority noted.

No illnesses have been reported to the US agency or the manufacturer.

The Singapore agency advised consumers who have bought the baby food to discard it or return it to the retailers.

The food is intended for babies 6 months or older.

Botulism usually causes illness within 18 to 36 hours of exposure. Initial indication of illness in infants is decreased frequency or absence of stools.
