Ayurvedic Therapies Cashing In On Medical Tourism

Medical tourism is a growing business in Asia. Foreigners often come to this side of the content //to get therapies and treatment, which would be extremely expensive in their own countries.

More and more Globetrotters are making a beeline for the state of Kerala in India during the monsoons. Why you may ask? Well it’s believed strongly that the best time to undergo natural Ayurveda healing therapy is in the rainy months of June, July and August.

A statement made by Mr. M. Narayanan, head of the premier Poovar Island Resort, said, compared to the previous year monsoon tourism had gone up by 20 percent in India.

"Ayurveda seems to have clicked much more than expected. We have occupancy of 60 percent now. This year we got quite a few tourists from Australia. Our regular clientele is from Europe, mainly Germany," said Mr. Narayanan.

The packages can cost anything between about 60 euros and 180 euros a day. However, two-week packages carry discounts compared to daily packages. And hence the most popular packages are those spanning one week, two weeks and three weeks.

Many entrepreneurs are cashing on this new growing trend offering massages with different types of herbal oils and powders. Much preferred is the treatment for ailments of the nose, mouth and throat called "sirovasthi", in which lukewarm herbal oils are poured into a cap fitted on the head.

Most of the major Ayurveda resorts have also formulate special ayurveda kitchens to enhance the effect of the oil treatment. Clients while going through the Ayruvedic experience are put on a strict vegetarian diet regime, which helps to detoxify their body and add a glow to their skins. In fact, several resorts have been known to throwing in cooking classes to help clients maintain their new look and lifestyle change, which they can take back with them.

Many of the Ayurvedic therapies are quite effective, however one cannot expect a hundred percent cure. Still, some of the high demanding therapies are for Arthritis patients, treatment to arrest the ageing process, high blood cholesterol, diabetes, body slimming, stress management and beauty treatments. Although good wholestic Aryvedic treatments can come at a high cost many health conscious individuals are opting for the Ayurvedic experience.

The true history of Ayurveda starts from the time of the Holy books, Vedas. The ancient mythology presents that the knowledge of Ayurveda was delivered directly by the lord Brahma who is considered as the creator of the world. There are four vedas called Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda. These Vedas were written during the time 3-5 thousand years before. All these Vedas especially Atharvaveda contains the medical knowledge based on the principle of Ayurveda.
