Australian Surgeons Successfully Conduct Worlds First Triple Organ Transplant

It has been reported that towards the end of last year, surgeons from Australia had performed the first ever-triple organ transplant//.

Surgeons at Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital had carried out the surgery on a 33-year-old woman, Leanne Myles of Cowra in central-eastern New South Wales. Leanne Myles was reported to be on her deathbed due to the failure of her liver, kidneys, and pancreas.

She was diagnosed when she was 19, with a rare autoimmune disease, which attacked her organs rendering them useless. It was explained that six months ago she was placed on life support at the hospital in Sydney and was given only weeks to live.

The officials at the hospital stated that as her condition began to deteriorate dramatically the doctors decided to perform three transplants. The surgeons had reportedly spent three hours for preparing the organs, connecting the pancreas to the liver by using the blood vessels from the donor. The surgeons explained that almost immediately all the organs began to function.
