Aussie Comedian Apologises for Pam Anderson Hepatitis Joke

An Australian comedian has publicly apologized to sufferers of hepatitis after poking fun at Pamela Anderson, who is battling the disease .

Peter Helliar had cracked a joke about Anderson during his weekly talk show called Rove.

Officials at Hepatitis Australia were annoyed at Helliar's 'cheap, cruel' joke, wherein he said hepatitis C would be the best present for Anderson on her 40th birthday.

In his apology, Helliar insisted that he didn't mean to cause any offence.

"The joke...was not intended to offend those living with hepatitis and, if any offence was caused, I sincerely apologise," the New York Post quoted Helliar, as saying.

Anderson, who is said to have contracted the serious blood virus from sharing a tattoo needle with her ex-hubby, Tommy Lee, had no immediate comment on the issue.
