Aspirin reduces Hemorrhage recurrence

Stroke is caused by arrest in supply of blood to the brain cells, which occurs due to blocking or breaks in the arteries//. Ischaemic stroke is caused by a blocked artery and Hemorrhagic stroke is caused due to bleeding which is caused by artery breaks.

The sudden stopping of blood to the brain cells can lead to dead of these brain cells due to oxygen depletion leading to stroke, the survival of the stroke patients depend upon the severity of blockage of the arteries.

Aspirin is given as a drug to in patients with clot in order to avoid more clot formation. Dr. Eric Smith and team from Massachusetts General Hospital have reported in the Journal Neurology the findings of their research survey on 207 patients who had Intracerebral hemorrhage to find out the effect of Aspirin on avoiding recurrent hemorrhage.

The recurrence of neurologic disorders was compared between patients who took aspirin and patients who did not take aspirin after treating their intracerebral hemorrhage. The researchers found that the patients who took aspirin had a reduced chance of developing recurrence hemorrhage. The researchers are planning for a clinical trial comparing the effect of aspirin Vs dummy pill to validate their study results.
