Apollo Hospital to collaborate with US cancer center to open new radiation therapy department

The Apollo hospital in Ahmedabad is to collaborate with The Bakersfield based Comprehensive Blood and Cancer center (CBCC), to start a new radiation therapy department.

// In an other six months the CBCC of US is to supply new radiation therapy machines to Ahmedabad Apollo Hospital. Alexander Kuruvilla the CEO of Apollo Hospital said that, "It will be for the first time for us that we will have within the hospital premises a separate unit that will be operated by an outside group. After reviewing its performance in Ahmedabad, we plan to implement the same arrangement in Kolkata.

"By bringing in the latest equipment, the cancer unit of the hospital will be one of the first centres in the country that will have comprehensive cancer care," the CBCC founder Ravi Patel said. "The pin-pointed radiation therapy will make a big difference. Side effects in chemotherapy and general radiation therapy will decrease a lot," he added. "Acquiring new technology for cancer treatment will of course encourage medical tourism in our country as many US based Indian will prefer coming here for cancer treatment than paying high insurance premium in the US," said Kuruvilla.

Dr. Ravi Patel of CBCC with the help of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has been creating cancer awareness in rural India for the past seven years. He has covered more than 600 villages of Kheda and Anand districts.
