Apollo Group Permitted to Carry out Surgeries in its Oman Centre

India's Apollo group of hospitals has got the Oman government's permission to carry out surgeries and admit patients for providing quality healthcare services// at the group's new centre in the Omani capital Muscat.

"The Ministry of Health (MoH) has given us the green signal to start our operation theatres, Intensive Care Units (ICUs), labour room and in-patient rooms," a report in the Times of Oman newspaper quoted V.T. Saileswaran and V.G. Bose, promoters of the Apollo Medical Centre (AMC), as saying.

At present a 40-bed multi-specialty centre, plans are on to make the AMC, set up at a cost of one million Omani rials, a 100-bed super-specialty hospital by the end of this year.

"The AMC has set up the state-of-the-art facilities, including a modern operation theatre, fully equipped intensive care units for adults, neonates and paediatrics, sophisticated labour room for deliveries and other inpatient services," J. Sandeep Kumar, AMC's chief operating officer, told the newspaper.

As of now, the hospital's the main focus is on gynaecology, neonatology and paediatrics, orthopaedics and general surgery.

The centre currently has around 20 doctors, but the staff strength is expected to go up to 75 with the induction of new doctors, nurses, paramedics, technicians and others.

There are over 300,000 Indians residing in Oman.

The Apollo chain of hospitals was started in 1983. Today, it is the largest private healthcare chain in Asia with branches in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ghana, Nigeria, Qatar and Kuwait besides the newly opened one in Oman.
