Antidepressant drugs does not increase suicide risk

A recent study reported in the American Journal of Psychiatry that antidepressant drugs do not increase the risk of attempting suicide but rather decrease the suicide risk. The article also cautions that the patients // taking antidepressant drugs should be closely monitored to find their correct drug dosage as an increase in dosage can cause adverse conditions.

The researchers conducted survey from 65,000 people who took antidepressant drug between 1992 to 2003 which compared suicide rates before and after taking the antidepressant drugs and found that the suicide rate in these people were decreased after taking the antidepressant drugs. The suicide rates were higher in adolescence people than adults who took antidepressant drugs. The study has shown that taking antidepressant drugs do not increase the risk of suicide attempts but has found to reduce the suicide rate.
