Anthrax claims lives of 700 animals.

Regina: Farm animals in Saskatchewan and Manitoba have been struck by an outbreak of anthrax and hundreds of them have succumbed to the lethal bacterial disease//. The Canadian Food Agency has reported that nearly 118 animals in Manitoba have died owing to Anthrax. Health officials have down played the effects of this outbreak on Humans, owing to the precautionary measures of quarantine and vaccinations underway in the farms.

The farms at Saskatchewan and area to the east of Saskatoon have been deeply affected and nearly 615 animals have died. Dr. Huiming Yang, Saskatchewan’s deputy chief medical health officer has voiced his concern over animal health. Animals in the affected farms and nearby farms have been placed under quarantine and do not form part of the food loop. Animals are also being vaccinated to contain the spread of disease and to offset any more setbacks to animal health.
