Anorexics Need Help

According to a latest research finding, two thirds of the young population who suffer from eating disorders is unable to talk to people on this issue. //This research was conducted by beat, an association for easting disorders in London.

From a total of six hundred people who took part in this study, 550 people revealed that they had no one to discuss this issue. People in the age group of 14-25 are at a greater risk. According to these people, their disorder was thought to be an attention seeking syndrome. Some of the parents thought these children to be foolish.

Beat is requesting the government and NHS to ensure that consulting guidelines are met with regarding the treatment of anorexic patients by General Practitioners. These doctors should diagnose the disorder and treat in the right manner or refer the patients to specialists. The role of media is significant as they should portray such news in the right manner neither trivializing nor magnifying.

Beat opines that people suffering from eating disorders are increasingly becoming alienated from the society and have a very low level of self-esteem. Hence medical fraternity along with the support from family and friends could go a long way in treating such patients.
