Andhra Junior Doctors Call Off Strike Partially; To Attend Emergency cases

The striking junior doctors in Andhra Pradesh have decided to partially call off their 10-day strike and attend to emergency cases on Saturday. //Earlier in the day, about 4,000 junior doctors staged a dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan and blocked the road in front of the governor's residence.

The junior doctors from nine hospitals across Andhra Pradesh are on strike since the past 10 days. They are protesting the government's decision to hike the in-house quota for Post Graduate medical seats in Andhra Pradesh. They contend that senior doctors get the luxury of grace marks as well as he advantage of 30 to 50 per cent reservation in PG exams. This strike is affecting patients who are unable to get proper treatment. Taking the seriousness of the situation into consideration, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had ruled on Friday that unless the strike was called off it withdraw the licenses of striking doctors and cancel the degrees of the junior doctors if they did not comply with court orders. Sources within the government are confident that the doctors would soon call off the strike altogether.
