An Element in Green Tea Could Fight HIV

London- Green tea is popular for its abundant health benefits. Now, British scientists, armed with scientific evidence, have placed on record// the benefits of a vital element in green tea, which may help fight HIV infection. The report has been published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

A group of American and British researchers have discovered that an important element in green tea called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), prevents HIV from sticking to immune system cells. This assists in retarding the spread of HIV.

Additionally, the scientists are investigating the effects of different amounts of tea on HIV. This research is presently at a nascent stage, therefore this is not a blanket prescription for HIV treatment. Yet, if green tea is used in combination with other HIV treatments, it is hoped that patients will experience a better quality of life.
