According to the study conducted by Jennifer D. Thomas, associate professor of psychology at San Diego State University it was found that alcohol exposure results// in circadian dysregulation in human kids. These kids develop fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) later in their life. They suffer from a variety of behavioral alterations such as altered sleeping,eating patterns, attention deficits, depression symptoms, abnormal brain wave activity, fragmented rapid eye movement and slow-wave sleep. These indirectly point out to the defect in their biological rhythms, which are controlled by circadian systems. The study was mainly conducted in rodents during a period equivalent to the third human trimester.

Circadian systems are responsible for coordinating multiple physiological systems with environmental factors.
