Agitating students condemn introduction of quota from 2007

Anti quota agitating students here tonight strongly condemned the UPA-Left decision to introduce OBC quota from June 2007 saying it was 'direct attack' on meritorious// students deserving a berth in technical institutions.

A spokesperson of the protesting students at Chittaranjan National Medical college here said the student bodies will hold a massive demonstration against the Centre's quota decision on May 27.

Earlier the anti-quota relay fast by students in West Bengal entered the fifth day today with more participation from non-technical institutions.

Sources in 'Youth for Equality', the umbrella organisation of the agitating junior doctors and house-staff, said that despite the boycott, the outpatient and emergency departments functioned normally.

Technical and non-technical students would participate in an anti-quota rally here on May 27.

The rally, with representation from all state-run medical colleges in West Bengal, IIT, Kharagpur, IIM, Joka and other premier institutions like Jadavpur University, Ashutosh College and Bengal College of Engineering and Technology, Shibpur, would be the biggest ever protest organised by anti-quota agitators in the state.
