The fizz of bird flu had not died when another strikes India. The new demon is anthrax that has gripped Junagadh district // following the death of a cow which was found to be infected with the deadly anthrax bacteria in Dedakiyali village in Menderda taluka.

A gigantic drive to vaccinate 500 cattles of the area has been launched.

As a precautionary measure villagers in Menderda taluka have been told not to handle any sick or dead cow, and inform authorities if they suspect similar cases.

Deputy director of animal husbandry department in Junagadh, CV Vaghasia said, "Anti-anthrax vaccination is being given to around 540 cows of Dedakiyali village and surrounding areas following the death of a cow affected by the bacteria on February 21. We have held meetings with the villagers for necessary steps."

Meanwhile, the district administration has urged people of Dedakiyali village and nearby villages to report any case of bleeding from eyes, ears or mouth of livestock to the nearest health department office.

"In case of death of any animal, the carcass should be buried after spraying lime and salt on it," Vaghasia added.

So it is crunch time for the Indian health care providers and people as well!
