Researches have found that African American smokers are more prone to developing lung cancer than White American smokers who smoked the same quantity of cigarette. // The researchers found that lung cancer was increased in these African American people who are exposed to nicotine than the White American due to presence of genetic predisposing factors which would have been triggered by smoking.

Dr. Christopher Haiman, University of Southern California conducted the research study in 183,000 study recruits of different ethnicity in which 1,979 recruits developed lung cancer in the course of the study and the study showed an increased of lung cancer incidence in African American Smokers.

Though the study did not take into account the diet and economic status of the study recruits, the researchers feel that smoking is a single most important factor than any other factor and there are also difference in the amount of nicotine inhaled and metabolized which depends on the depth and frequency of cigarette puff taken.
