It is feared that 100 children may have contracted the hepatitis C virus during the first part of 1990, after they were given blood products// at a Dublin children's hospital which was not sufficiently screened for safety.

Following a review at the hospital, the inadequacy of the screening test for Hepatitis C came out into the open. Now the families concerned will be contacted to enable accurate screening for any liver condition.

The Labor Party's health spokesperson, Liz McManus, unhappy at the late realization said, “We want to know when the hospital and the HSE first became aware of this incident and why it has taken 15 years for the details to emerge. It is essential that they should be provided not only with the necessary screening but also with counseling and support.”
