One thousand medical students will convene for one week in Adelaide from Sunday 1 July for the 47th National Convention of the Australian Medical Students Association (AMSA).

The largest medical student conference in the Southern Hemisphere, this annual event brings students from each of Australias 17 medical schools together to network and participate in a rousing week of activities.

The Convention will feature keynote speakers including anti-nuclear activist Dr Helen Caldicott, media personality Dr Sally Cockburn, Australian of the Year Sir Gustav Nossal, CEO of the Cancer Council Professor Ian Olver, and author of the critically acclaimed Maos Last Dancer, Li Cunxin.

Held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, the AMSA National Convention boasts an academic program second to none. Plenary sessions, workshops in medical education, an inter-varsity debating series, film festival and the ever popular Emergency Challenge all contribute to the success of AMSAs premier event.

The National Convention is an extraordinary opportunity for Australian medical students to not only meet one another and form collegial relationships, but to hear from extraordinary Australians leading our country in medicine and politics, said AMSA President, Mr Rob Mitchell.

The media are invited to the opening sessions of AMSAs academic program. Where: Adelaide Convention Centre, Nth Terrace, Adelaide When: Academic program begins at 9:30am Monday 2 July in Hall F. Mondays program is attached for reference.

A door stop with some of the speakers including Dr. Sally Cockburn, Dr. Helen Caldicott, AMSA National President Mr. Rob Mitchell and AMSA Convention Convenor Mr. Matthew Rackham will commence at 11:00-11:30am.
