AIDS Cases In Sudan Increasing

People in south Sudan are at a higher risk of developing HIV/AIDS, Sudanese Minister of Labor, Public Service and Manpower, Alison Manani Magaya has warned. Khartoum Monitor// reports that Magaya issued the warning at a graduation ceremony for an HIV/AIDS training program.

Magaya said that the influx of refugees from other countries having a high prevalence of HIV was a concern. "The challenge is how to reduce the danger in south Sudan. He adds the government would conduct HIV/AIDS tests at reception camps of returning refugees and at the same time launch propaganda campaign at evacuation sites. The youth and students die in a great number of HIV/AIDS and they need to be made aware of its dangers."

Available data suggests that the rate of HIV in Sudan has reached 2.6 percent and it is feared that this number will increase to 3 percent in the near future.
