A surge in Lifestyle Medicine

From experience one knows that one cannot resort to drugs alone for the cure of diabetes and obesity. These both conditions are rising at an alarmingly high proportion. A Connecticut doctor is working to combine standard drugs with lifestyle therapies. Some people who despite doing workouts gain weight. Doctors usually make a complete study of the patient’s nutritional profile and psychological profile. Their body composition is measured through X-rays. Not to stop with these they// carry out a blood test.

Whereas lifestyle medicine takes a more holistic approach and treats the symptoms and the underlying behavioral problems. The goal is to prevent chronic diseases that often result from bad habits, like unhealthy eating and lack of exercise. A treatment typically includes medication and a long-term program of exercise and nutrition. Some may include yoga, stress management and meditation. Some people have shown a dramatic change by losing 40 pounds in just six months.

To find out if you need help, Dr. Yavari advices that one should look for increasing weight, check if blood pressure was going up and look for early signs of diabetes. About 23 percent of people in the United States suffer from Obesity and diabetes.
