A furore over tailor-made menopause medication

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is being prompted by the Drug Manufacturer, Wyeth to restrain the special pharmacies that develop tailor made hormone drugs to treat menopause.// The drugs are made as per the doctor’s prescription and are not FDA approved.

Following Wyeth's recommendation to the FDA, the agency has received many letters from women who rely on these custom-made treatments, and have requested the agency not to take any action against these compounding pharmacies. A 2002 Federal study had enunciated the risks of HRT and linked it to heart attacks, strokes and breast cancer, after which many women sought the refuge of these products sold by the compounding pharmacies.

Wyeth has requested the FDA to restrain these pharmacies with seizures, injunctions, and warning letters, as some of them could be cheating women with products that may cause serious health risks.
