A Potent Sedative Kills Great-grandfather

Kenneth Heaton, a great grandfather at 79 and a war veteran, having braved all odds, was suffering from cancer, but quite unfortunately, met his end at the hands of a// nurse, who by a quirk of fate injected a potent sedative purported to give him a good night’s sleep.

Hull Crown Court has accused Julia Levitt, 28, of unlawfully killing Kenneth Heaton, aged 79 by giving him a sedative injection that was not part of the prescription and administered without permission.

She was given an 18- month jail sentence, and suspended for two years. The Judge Mettyear said, "It was totally appalling behavior. He told the nurse, “You were a talented nurse with the power to do great good. It is very sad that you behaved in such a way as to ruin all that. I am sure your motives were to help this very, very sick man although you did so in a way that was hardly appropriate. I bear in mind this is the end of your career."

Ms Levitt broke down and told the court that she had the patient's best interests in mind and "wanted to give him a good night's sleep".
