A New System to Displace False Prescription Claims

A new computer system is underway in Northern Ireland which will aim to bring some reprieve to the prevalent prescription antics, so rampant, that is milking// the government to the tune of ￡7m annually.

The system is designed to conduct certain checks of patient and prescription information and comparing them with other records like the social security records. Hewlett-Packard Northern Ireland has will be enabling the system, labeled the Electronic Prescribing and Eligibility System (EPES). The system will be installed in all the pharmacies within the next two years.

The Department of Health's Paul Simpson, said "EPES is about modernizing the prescribing and dispensing process to improve patient safety, reduce administration costs and reduce fraud in the provision of health care in Northern Ireland."
