45 Day Jail Sentence for Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton, the well-known American socialite and an heiress to a share of the Hilton Hotel fortune, has been sentenced to 45days in jail for violating// her own probation for a previous offence by knowingly driving without a valid license.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer rejected Hilton's defense that she didn't realize her license was suspended and ordered the 26-year-old socialite to report to a county detention facility on June 5.

She will not be allowed any work release, furloughs, use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail, the judge ruled.

The decision came after a 2 hour long hearing in which the prosecutors argued that Ms Hilton was seeking to be placed above law. Her defense lawyers said that this harsh treated was meted to her because of her celebrity status.

Ms. Hilton apologized saying “"I'm very sorry and from now on I'm going to pay complete attention to everything. I'm sorry and I did not do it on purpose at all,” before the judge pronounced the sentence.

She has to report to a women’s jail by the laid down date or go behind bars for 90 days.

Hilton, 26, pleaded no contest in January to reckless driving stemming from a September 7 arrest in Hollywood. Police said she appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. She had a blood-alcohol level of .08 per cent, the level at which an adult driver is in violation of the law. She was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education and $US1500 ($1825) in fines.

On January 15, Hilton was pulled over by California Highway Patrol. Officers informed her she was driving on a suspended license and she signed a document acknowledging she was not to drive, according to papers filed in Superior Court.

All this now puts a break on her high social life.
