31 Year Old Man Critical And Is Suspected To Have Contracted Bird Flu Virus In Shenzhen

According to the news report it is evident that a man is very critical and is suspected to have contracted the bird flu virus. He is 31-years-old and is admitted// in a Shenzhen hospital. It is very evident that the virus is spreading from china to Hong Kong. The SAR's Centre for Health Protection said that the victim lives in Shenzhen and is not sure whether he is a mainlander or a Hong Konger residing in Shenzhen. He fell ill after he visited a wet market in the city where live chickens were on sale.

Both the Health Department of Guangdong Province and the Ministry of Health were informed about the scenario. Though this could be very serious the Chinese media has not yet reported the case. According to the statistics more than 80 people were infected with bird flu virus with 18 confirmed human cases, including 12 fatalities. The health education for travelers would be stepped up at all immigration control points by distributing leaflets and spreading health messages.

Temperature would be screened for all inbound travelers. The Centre for Food Safety of the Food and the Environmental Hygiene Department will also step up inspections of chickens imported from the mainland. The H5N1 virus first surfaced in Hong Kong in 1997 followed which there were mass culling of birds. Though it alleviated the spread locally the H5N1 virus continued to circulate among birds in Asia. China's Ministry of Agriculture ordered tightening of security over poultry to prevent bird flu contamination from migratory flocks.
