2010 AIDS Target May Misfire, Warns United Nations

With just a few days more for the review conference on the UN five year plan on AIDS, the feelers received from the UN is certainly not encouraging. // The United Nations has made no bones that the global effort to catch up with the epidemic is lacking in many areas, which might deter the achievement of the 2010 target.

The UN study on the five-year plan calls for a global integrated effort that is powerful and well administered to meet the 2010 target.

It is estimated that nearly 25 million people in the last 25 years have died of AIDS and another 40 million people are presently infected. Sadly, inspite of all the concerted efforts to curb the spread of AIDS, the epidemic has always taken the upper hand, leaving many patients in jeopardy with lack of sufficient medical infrastructure to cater to the AIDS cases.
